Arts and Cultural Programs
The Sara Lee Foundation believes that arts activities and other cultural programs are essential tools in fostering vibrant, healthy and livable communities. Recognizing that the continued vitality of the arts is dependent upon artistic innovation, expanded public availability, and strengthened organizational health and capacity, cultural program grants are made to Chicago cultural organizations that provide exemplary programs to the public which are clearly focused on diversity and generate a significant amount of visibility. In each of our focus areas we look at diversity, inclusion, communities of color, gender, and underserved areas – where we can have an impact, and make a difference. Therefore it is no surprise that funding priority is given to arts and cultural programs that are collaborative and innovative and are centered on diversity and inclusion. This may include artistic expression by people of color, women, and broadening access to the arts. The amount of visibility generated by the proposed project is equally important, as priority is given to projects that occur over multiple days, weeks and months; one night only projects are most often the least competitive. Projects must also incorporate a highly visible marketing campaign which clearly conveys the project and its sponsor’s involvement to the community.
